The Mark Twain s The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras...

Imagine sitting at a coffee shop in New York City. The day is November 18, 1867. A person has just picked up a copy of the Saturday Press, a newspaper which is known for publishing short stories (Powers). One of the short stories featured in the newspaper is, â€Å"Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog†, which will soon become The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. by a newly found writer known as â€Å"Mark Twain† (Powers 154). Twain carries a heavy burden, spurred on by the Civil War, which ended in 1865 (Gerald 336). After reading the story, all the maladies brought about from five years of fighting are suddenly lifted.(Powers 154). In Mark Twain’s The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, several of literary themes are incorporated, like creating a tall tale, as well as the ideal of deception, which Twain continually brings back to the reader throughout the novel.
